Gearbox isn’t recycling old faces this time. Borderlands 4 PS5 introduces four completely new Vault Hunters, dropped onto the hostile planet Kairos to take down a tyrant calling himself the Timekeeper, with a skill tree deep enough that respeccing becomes part of the strategy.

• Four original Vault Hunters at launch: Vex, Rafa, Harlowe, and Amon, each with three distinct skill trees
• 387 total skill points per character, the deepest build customization the series has offered
• New movement options including grappling, double-jumps, gliding, and underwater traversal
• Full skill and Action Skill respecs available at designated hubs across Kairos
• Four-player online co-op for tackling the planet’s Vaults together
• Post-launch DLC roadmap already confirmed, including a fifth Vault Hunter, C4SH

Each Vault Hunter in Borderlands 4 PS5 gets one signature Action Skill active at a time, but the three branching skill trees behind it open up genuinely different playstyles within the same character. Vex leans into Siren-style phase abilities, while Amon focuses on melee and heavy weapons through his Liveframe exoskeleton, giving even solo players room to experiment.

Movement gets a real overhaul this time around too. Grappling hooks and gliding turn Kairos’s terrain into something closer to a traversal puzzle than earlier Borderlands maps, and underwater sections add a genuinely new environment type the series hasn’t tackled before.

Longtime fans who’ve mained the same character across three games will actually have to decide who they are again here, since none of the four launch Vault Hunters carry over from previous entries.
